Oak & Smoke
BY NICK MACMAHON | 5 JULY 2019
Oak & Smoke are producers and purveyors of smoked fish products. This includes the famous 'Arbroath Smokies'.
Arbroath Smokies are hot-smoked haddock, from the Scottish town of Arbroath, on the North-East coast of Scotland. The haddock is caught in nearby waters and smoked over wooden whisky barrels. 'Smokies' have a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, which means only haddock caught and smoked within the designated area around Arbroath can be called ‘Arbroath Smokies’. This prevents imitations being sold, protecting the Arbroath Smokie industry, as well as recognising the cultural and historical importance of the product.
Alongside the ‘smokies’, Oak & Smoke also sell other smoked fish from Arbroath. This includes; fillets of hot-smoked salmon, trout, and mackerel. They also sell a smoked mackerel paté.
